Mariner shines in this gorgeous Bits and Pieces batik collection by Island Batik! To make the Storm at Sea block, you’ll piece Square in Square blocks and paper piece a rectangular block. If you’re new to paper piecing, don’t worry-the rectangular block is very easy to paper piece, even for a beginner! In addition, The Inquiring Quilter website (www.inquiringquilter.com) provides help online for paper piecing so there’s no need to shy away from making this beautiful quilt.
FABRIC: Find a bit of this and a piece of that in this new colorful Bits and Pieces batik collection designed by Kathy Engle for Island Batik. This batik collection features a variety of patterns resembling natural pebbles and stonework.
The kit contains a purchased copy of the Mariner pattern/instructions designed by The Inquiring Quilter along with enough fabric to complete the throw quilt as shown in picture 1. This kit contains all fabrics required for the top of the quilt and edge binding. Backing and batting will need to be purchased separately.
The overall finished size of this quilt is 51″ x 69″.
Printed fabrics in this kit are from the Bits and Pieces batik collection designed by Kathy Engle for Island Batiks. Pictures 2 and 3 show the pattern and all fabrics included in the kit. Pictures 4 thru 10 show larger pictures of some the fabrics. There are no substitutions in this kit.
Skill Level: Confident Beginner (some foundation paper piecing)
The pattern recommends 3-1/2 yards of fabric for the backing assuming a 44/45″ width fabric along with an 59″ x 77″ piece of batting. Additional fabric could be needed if using a directional print or fabric design matching. Backing fabric and batting are NOT included in this kit.
A little over 9 yards of fabric is included with the kit along with the pattern. NOTE: FABRICS IN THIS KIT ARE PACKAGED IN THE SAME ORDER AS LISTED ON THE PATTERN TO MAKE THEM EASY TO IDENTIFY AND MARK USING YOUR PREFERRED METHOD!
