About the Instructor Carol Honderich.
A quilt maker, designer and instructor, Carol Honderich learned quilting at an early age as she joined her mother and grandmothers at the quilting frame at family quilting bees. She traces the passion for this craft back in her family for four generations, with quilts from her great-grandmother, grandmother and mother. Carol has a passion for making faith-based quilts and loves the opportunity to challenge and encourage her students to create well-made, beautiful and meaningful quilts that tell a story about the quilter. Her quilts have been exhibited in galleries and shows around the country, including AQS Paducah Quilt Show, Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, Sauder Village Quilt Festival and many local exhibits.
Class Description: This 2-day class is taught by Carol Honderich.
Day 1 – Designing watercolor center
We will be working in a peaceful setting as you enjoy creating your own watercolor wall hanging using precut 2” fabric squares. Each fabric kit comes with sufficient squares to create a 32” center (for an approximate final wall hanging size of 40”x40”). Your printed pattern includes three different charted designs to get you started. Classroom instruction will include discussion of how to use various fabric prints in your kit to produce smooth and interesting transitions from the center floral squares, to the soft background areas. We will discover how to create large flowers from several smaller pieces, and how to create background shadows and accents.
Day 2 – Sewing watercolor squares into a center
Once your center design is complete, you will learn how to quickly and accurately sew your squares together. Many students end the second day with a finished and pressed center. We will also discuss how to measure, cut borders and add the borders, and ideas for quilting your wall hanging.
